INDIVIDUAL PIANO LESSONS

Teaching individual piano lessons to students on a weekly basis is one of my greatest joys. Having taught private lessons for over two decades, I see more clearly with each passing year that music shared one-on-one, weekly, provides a depth of musical experience that is unparalleled.

As a teacher, my main goal is to instill in each student a love for music.  Music as a discipline can be an adventure, and I desire to guide each student on that journey of discovery.  Students can learn to play with enthusiasm, confidence and musicality.  In order to teach these, I endeavor to train the student to excel in their own musical interests – whether playing classical music, jazz, hymns, or popular styles, and whether their long-term goal is to be a solo performer, collaborative player, composer, or pedagogue.  In order to provide a well-rounded music education, I believe in using the classical style as the foundation.  This includes not merely piano technique and performance, but also theory, music history, ear-training and sight-reading as well as improvisation, playing from chord charts, and composition.
